چکیده

Exploiting broad- and narrow-band images of the \textit{Hubble Space Telescope} from near-UV to I-band restframe, we study star-forming clumps six galaxies GASP sample undergoing strong ram-pressure stripping (RPS). Clumps are detected in H$\alpha$ near-UV, tracing star formation on different timescales. We consider located galaxy disks, stripped tails those formed gas but still close disk, called extraplanar. detect 2406 H$\alpha$-selected (1708 375 extraplanar regions, 323 tails) 3750 UV-selected (2026 disk clumps, 825 899 tail clumps). Only $\sim15\%$ spatially resolved, meaning that most smaller than $\sim 140$ pc. luminosity size distribution functions (LDFs SDFs, respectively) luminosity-size relation. The average LDF slope is $1.79\pm 0.09$, while SDF $3.1\pm 0.5$. Results suggest be turbulence driven scale-free, as main-sequence galaxies. All whether they disks or tails, have an enhanced at a given size, compared Indeed, their closer starburst galaxies, indicating ram pressure able enhance luminosity. No striking differences found among suggesting environments which embedded play minor role influencing formation.

Wakes of ram pressure stripped disc galaxies

Spiral galaxies that move through the intracluster medium lose a substantial amount of their gas discs due to ram pressure stripping. The recent observations of NGC 4388 by Oosterloo & van Gorkom (2005) reveal a tail of stripped gas of ∼ 100 kpc behind the source galaxy. We present first 3D hydrodynamical simulations of the evolution of such ram pressure stripped tails. We find that if the ICM ...

Uv Hst Spectroscopy of Star-forming Galaxies

to be published in the " Starburst Activity in Galaxies " proceedings by the RevMexAstronAstrofis. ABSTRACT HST spectroscopical observations of 8 HII galaxies are reported. Lyα emission was detected in 4 of them. We find that it is the velocity structure of the gas which is the main determining factor for the escape of the Lyα photons, and not the abundance of dust. The rest of the sample shows...

The role of the Rayleigh-Taylor instability in ram pressure stripped disk galaxies

Ram pressure stripping, i.e. the removal of a galaxy’s gas disk due to its motion through the intracluster medium of a galaxy cluster, appears to be a common phenomenon. Not every galaxy, however, is completely stripped of its gas disk. If the ram pressure is insufficiently strong, only the outer parts of the gas disk are removed, and the inner gas disk is retained by the galaxy. One example of...

HST study of Lyman-alpha emission in star-forming galaxies: the effect of neutral gas flows

We present high dispersion HST GHRS UV spectroscopic observations of 8 H II galaxies covering a wide range of metallicities and physical properties. We have found Lyα emission in 4 galaxies with blueshifted absorption features, leading to P Cygni like profiles in 3 of them. In all these objects the O I and Si II absorption lines are also blueshifted with respect to the ionized gas, indicating t...

Star-forming Complexes in Galaxies

Star complexes are the largest globular regions of star formation in galaxies. If there is a spiral density wave, nuclear ring, tidal arm, or other welldefined stellar structure, then gravitational instabilities in the gaseous component produce giant cloud complexes with a spacing of about three times the width. These gas complexes form star complexes, giving the familiar beads on a string of s...
